World Intellectual Property Day – Copyrights vs. Fundamental Rights

While the members of the European Parliament were busy again formulating another version of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), the European Commission invited to a workshop called ‘World Intellectual Property Day‘, just across the aisle.¬†Copyrightsholders and their lobbyists presented an absurd wish list.

Topping the wish list for the new IPRED is an indirect liability of old and new ‘agents’. Dominick Luquer, Secretary General of the International Federation of Actors (FIA) demanded that even search engines, financial services and the advertising industry should as Service Providers (ISPs) be held liable for copyright infringements.

This was supported by the IFPI as well.

If you think of what this associations really want, this creeps the shit out of me! (just google ‘right of free information’)
