SXSW Music Tech Finalists – is this what it will be?

Around four hundred companies submitted web-based services and ideas to the third SXSW Accelerator. In 2011 SXSW launched a special category for web/tec services for the music industry. Finalists will present their services March 16th at the Hilton Austin Downtown.

The finalists are

Air Guitar Ltd (UK)
An augmented reality service that let Fans and Bands interact in ‘tactile’ ways. AiR Guitar turns a band t-shirt into an instrument you can play at home (???) via a website using augmented technology.

algoriddim GmbH (GER)
Another DJ software using iTunes.

Exfm (US)
A Chrome extension compilling music libraries from your browser history. Sharing and s other social media basics included

Herd (CA)
Geotaging plus music, a music service for mobile devices specialized on local music.

Next Big Sound (US)
Metrics based decision making for music industry professionals tracking e.g. YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Wikipedia, Last.fm generating insight on traditional sales, traffic on artists websites, P2P data.

RootMusic (US)
No idea what they do – if you want to watch the demo vid, it says ‘contains music from WMG and UMG so fuck off’

Roqbot (US)
A virtual jukebox and background music service for public venues. Via iPhone you can select tracks to be played.

Shuffler.fm (NL)
Automated blog scanning, data from music blogs compiled to a magazine.

Honestly – does that sound convincing? Compiling, rearranging, automation, cloud, and more metrics?
