Android smartphone market share gets close (only 9% less) to the iPhone market share according a recent study from Nielsen.
Android is the single fastest-growing mobile platform. Other OS, including BlackBerry and Windows Mobile, suffer sharp declines over the past quarter.
In fact, Androids outsold iPhones for the first time ever in the first half of 2010. Today, Android has 19% of the mobile OS market, while Apple’s iOS smartphones have 28%.
Age also plays a role, members of the under-35 crowd were more likely to choose Android, BlackBerry held sway with users over 45. Apple dominated when it came to smartphone users ages 44 and under.
This implies that Android will soon be a candidate for market dominance.
